October Greetings!
It's hard to believe we're already into the second week of October. Today parents are meeting with teachers as this is our Fall Parent/Teacher Conference date. Students are enjoying a 3 day weekend, I'm sure.
We have finished most all of our Benchmark Testing and Reading Inventories at this point. Teachers will begin using this data to re-group students and better meet their needs via tutoring, small group instruction, and enrichment activities.
The first 9-weeks grading period will end next week on Oct. 19th. Report cards will go home the following Wednesday, October 24th.

We're off and running....here's what to expect!
Already it's week #4!
We're off and running and things are beginning to really settle in here at Kocurek. Teachers are busy assessing students with our District Benchmark tests in Math, Reading, and Writing. We are also giving students in K-2nd grade the DRA and TPRI which are reading inventories. These tests help us to know how our students are reading and when then use that data to make small reading groups and work with students on their strengths and areas for improvement.
We've also begun a new tutoring approach this year called T.A.G. which stands for Targeted Accelerated Growth. We use 8-8:30 am each morning, Monday through Thursday, to tutor students. Each grade level has designed their interventions for the month. Some grade levels will focus on math while others focus on reading and even science. We're excited about this new tutoring time that is school-wide. We are expecting big results from this new approach to meeting student needs. We'll be sure to keep our readers updated on its progress.
Plan to be a key participant in our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conference day. It is set for Monday October 8th. Your child's teacher will be contacting you soon to setup a time on that day to visit about your child's progress. Feel free to contact your child's teacher before this, though, if you feel a need to meet prior to this date. You can call 414-2547 and leave a message with your child's teacher.
Blessings,
Mr. Summers

Week 1 Done!
Well we've had a great first week of school! Students and teachers are both excited about the new year and we have a lot of fun events planned for the year. We just started our annual Magazine Subscription Fundraiser. This is an important fundraiser for us as we use this money to help pay for student materials and staff development expenses. You can participate by ordering from the order forms and catalog that was sent home with each student or you can do it online here:
http://store.gafundraising.com/landing.aspx?SID=437558
The fundraiser runs from August 30th to September 10th. Students who get 10 subscriptions will win a Limo ride to Lunch. If a student gets 15 subscriptions, then the student can invite a friend along! Good luck!
Remember, Monday is a holiday (Labor Day) so enjoy the 3-day weekend and we'll see everyone back at school on Tuesday the 4th!
